This winter has been particularly cold and dry which can wreak havoc on your skin’s health. Not only is dry skin unattractive, it can be painful and annoying. In this post we will look at some of the best things you can do to keep your skin moisturized and healthy all winter long.

Use the right winter moisturizer for your skin type. Many people think that the heavier the moisturizer, the better. This is not always the case. What’s more important are the actual ingredients you’re using. If you have sensitive skin or skin that breaks out easily, you should stay away from oil-based creams or lotions.

Run a humidifier. In the winter, most places are heated with dry air. This includes your workplace. While most people realize they should have a humidifier running in their room at night while they sleep, it’s also important to note that a humidifier at your desk could make a huge difference in the moisture level of your skin.

Reduce water temp and time bathing. In the winter especially it’s a good idea not to hang out in the piping hot bath or shower. Not only does water wash your important natural oils away, when it’s really hot, it also dehydrates your skin and makes it red.

Don’t wait to moisturize. As soon as you are finished bathing or washing your face you should immediately pat your skin dry and apply your cream or lotion. When you’re fresh out of a bath or shower your skin is clean and your pores are open and ready to be moisturized!
