With fall officially here and temperatures and humidity dropping, it’s time to start thinking about your autumn skin care routine. During the summer, skincare is usually focused on protection from the sun and oil control while fall is about repairing any damage sustained during the hot, sunny months and preparing for the cool, dry air on the horizon.

Gentle exfoliation

While it’s important to exfoliate in order to lose some of the dead skin cells caused by summer damage, you have to be careful not to cause irritation or lose moisture that’s so important as the air gets dryer. You should also consider a shower or bath scrub to help prevent any dryness on your body.

Less cleansing, more moisturizing

Again, there is less humidity in the fall than in the summer. Because of this, it’s important to make sure you’re not overdoing it with cleanser – losing essential natural oils. You should also consider using a more substantial, richer moisturizer and night cream.

Keep the primer

While primer may not seem as essential because you’re not as worried about your making coming off from the sun and sweat, it also helps to lock in your skin’s moisture while also creating an added barrier between your skin and the environment.

Watch your hot water use

The chilly air makes it very tempting to crank up the hot water and take a long shower or bath. However, water, and in particular hot water, can dry out your skin leaving you feeling dull, itchy, and scaly.
