Juvederm Fillers Q & A
Juvederm Fillers Q & A

How long does Juvederm® last?

Juvederm® is one of the longest-lasting fillers on the market today! That said, there are several different options for Juvederm® fillers that to choose from that have varying durations. As such, the range for how long Juvederm® fillers last is anywhere from six months to two years! Typically, Juvederm® Voluma lasts the longest at 24 months with a possible touch-up after one year. Juvederm® Vollure lasts approximately 12 to 18 months, while Juvederm Ultra, Ultra Plus, and Volbella typically last around one year. With Juvederm Ultra and Ultra Plus, you may need a touch-up after six to nine months of the initial procedure.

Is Juvederm® safe?

Juvederm® is as safe as they come when it comes to dermal fillers! The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) initially approved Juvederm® back in 2006 with indications for treating moderate to severe facial wrinkles and nasolabial folds. It has since received additional approval from the FDA for cheek and chin augmentation! Thus, you can rest assured that Juvederm® is not some back-alley aesthetic procedure. On the contrary, it is one of the most common and trusted cosmetic procedures and is supported by one of the highest governmental departments in health and human services in the United States.

Furthermore, you can also trust the expertise and skill of our board-certified dermatologists at Southwest Michigan Dermatology to flawlessly provide you with top-quality Juvederm® treatment. Both Dr. Mohney and Dr. Semler have over 20 years of medical experience with a wealth of knowledge, training, and excellent education to back it up!

What is involved in a Juvederm® procedure?

If it is your first time receiving a Juvederm® filler at Southwest Michigan Dermatology, we will have an initial consultation with you to discuss your medical history, present health status or medical conditions, any allergies you have or medications you are taking, and what you hope to achieve with Juvederm® fillers. After this consultation is complete and our dermatologists are confident that you can safely receive Juvederm® treatment, they will conduct a facial analysis, focusing primarily on the areas you would like addressed. Once the facial analysis is complete, a treatment plan will be established, which will either take place that day or at a later date.

Once the time comes to administer the Juvederm® filler, one of our dermatologists or medical aestheticians will mark the treatment area(s) using a felt pen or marker. After the area(s) are marked, the dermatologist will inject the Juvederm® filler into the treatment area(s). Depending on the size and number of treatment areas, this process could take anywhere from 15 minutes to one hour. Once the procedure is completed, however, you should be able to return to work or resume your daily schedule without complication, as zero downtime is required. There may be minimal discomfort during or after the procedure, but this will go away soon after and should not interfere with any task or activity.
