Sculptra Aesthetic works to replace lost collagen over time with a series of treatments. It’s the first facial injectable that provides subtle results over time for a more natural look. Sculptra works by replacing lost collagen which is a naturally occurring substance that keeps your skin looking youthful and smooth. As you get older your body slows down collagen production which causes wrinkles and folds. Sculptra corrects those wrinkles and folds and gives you a much more youthful and polished appearance. Usually, about three injection sessions are required over a period of a few months and can last up to two years.
What is Sculptra® Aesthetic injectable filler?
When you look in the mirror in the morning do you notice more wrinkles, lines and sagging skin that you’re sure weren’t there yesterday? If you would like to restore your youthful look and replenish the lost volume in your face without having to undergo invasive surgery, Southwest Michigan Dermatology might have the answer. There are many non-invasive treatments available that can improve the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines, as well as perk up sagging skin, and Sculptra® Aesthetic is one of them. As we age our skin naturally loses its elasticity and becomes thinner and more fragile due to a decrease in the production of natural oils and collagen which then leaves our skin vulnerable to damage. Sculptra® Aesthetic has been on the market since 1999 and was first approved by the FDA in 2004. It is an injectable filler that gradually helps replace the collagen that we gradually lose as we age. Collagen, the most common protein found in the human body, is responsible for the framework that supports our cells and tissues, and is essential in maintaining youthful looking skin. Collagen works with the elastin and naturally produced hyaluronic acid to keep our skin smooth and hydrated, while helping to maintain the skin’s shape.
How does Sculptra® Aesthetic injectable filler work?
Unlike most dermal fillers made with hyaluronic acid, Sculptra® Aesthetic is made with poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) which actually stimulates the production of new collagen. When our skin absorbs microparticles of PLLA it gradually produces new collagen and replenishes the skin’s volume and structure. The most common treatment areas for Sculptra® Aesthetic injections are the temples, cheeks, jaw-line and chin. Your technician will start by applying a topical numbing cream to the treatment area to make it more comfortable. The injection contains a small amount of the numbing medication lidocaine which also helps in eliminating any discomfort. Over time the poly-L-lactic acid will naturally break down in the body and the individual’s own plumped up, collagen-built tissue begins to take its place. Collagen can take several months to be naturally produced in the body, meaning this is not a “quick fix” for filling a fold or wrinkle. Instead, Sculptra® Aesthetic works to gradually restore volume to areas of the face where it has been lost.
How long does Sculptra® Aesthetic injectable filler last?
Results with Sculptra® Aesthetic can sometimes be noticed immediately following treatment, however, it can take a few months to see the full results. Patients will typically need three to six sessions before achieving their desired outcome and, whilst results vary from patient to patient, they can, on average, last up to two years. Your specialist at Southwest Michigan Dermatology will review your treatment plan with you prior to starting treatment so you know how many sessions you will need and how long your results can last.
How many injections do you need of Sculptra® Aesthetic injectable filler?
Most patients can expect their treatment plan to consist of three Sculptra® Aesthetic injections, spread out over a period of 3 to 4 months. The results from the treatment gradually develop and become noticeable, even after the first session, but many patients require several treatments before they see their desired results. Patients have reported liking the gradual improvement in their appearance because it means the changes are subtle as opposed to suddenly having smoother, younger looking skin, which indicates “having work done”. Many patients will schedule one injection session per year after their initial injection to maintain the results. Your Sculptra® Aesthetic specialist at Southwest Michigan Dermatology will help you determine the number of treatments you will need to achieve the best results for you.
Why use Sculptra® Aesthetic injectable filler?
The main reasons people turn to Sculptra® Aesthetic is because they can restore their younger appearance without surgery, and because it actually stimulates the production of collagen that gradually and naturally restores their skin to a smoother, hydrated and more youthful look.
